iPhone 3G Unveiled

June 10th, 2008 · Paul · No Comments

iPhone, ipod and internetThe 3G iPhone was unveiled yesterday at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Apple have addressed some of the issues with the original iPhone such as the battery life which is now comparable to other 3G phones on the market with 24 hours of audio and 5 hours of 3G talk time. It also comes with integrated GPS with Google Maps live tracking but best of all it’s less than half the price of the original iPhone starting from only $199 for the 8GB version and climbing to $399 for the new 32GB version.

D.A.N.C.E video and OK video

I have recently seen a very wonderful music video from the band Justice. Directed, illustrated and animated by French designer So Me. The video follows two people walking through halls with animated t-shirts. The second video was a viewing recommendation from fellow Betley blogger Ash. The band is Sh*tdisco with their song Ok. The majority of the video is done using a pop-up book containing pictures of the band playing and singing, it is a great video. It uses a idea which I’m sure every young designer has been tempted to use for a project, but they execute it really well.

!Warning! Excessive Artwork

March 14th, 2008 · Ash · 1 Comment

Hot chip go further than most with the artwork for their albums. Their latest cover for ‘Made in the Dark’ has a lovely and elusive looking finish with an embossed, cracked effect for the centre circle, printed with bronze ink on top.

The previous album, The Warning, had a number of different variations of its artwork. The range of artwork for this was well connected using the same element of a block with a plank through it. There are apparently no less than 23 pieces centered around this element. I think it’s a great use of a simple element applied well to different concepts, producing a great collection of artwork.

Vinyl Heads

February 18th, 2008 · Adam · No Comments

tiffany.jpgEver wondered what it would be like to have a popstars face, hand or eyes? If not I’m sure you will do after seeing these vinyl heads. These are just a couple of pictures of the latest fad/craze/in-thing to be sweeping the internet. All you require is a model, camera and a back catalogue of front-on big face vinyl.

Whilst wearing similar clothes to the artist in question take your twelve inch sleeve and move it inline and in proportion with your body. You can then strike a pose that you think the artist was probably doing or take on a highly unlikely or comical position, then just click away.

Britney Is Graphically Exposed

February 6th, 2008 · Adam · No Comments

Popstar Britney Spears, the once clean cut girl turned toxic rehab publicity mother has taken the design industry by storm. An actual storm I hear you ask, no a logo fuelled storm. Her new perfume ‘I Believe’ by Elizabeth Arden has been accused of shamlessly plundering another brand for its logo. The organization in question is Canadian charity Mondonation, at the moment they are selling t-shirts with a portion of the money going to a charity of your choice. On the t-shirt a slogan of your choice is written, this is meant to be something you believe in hence their ‘Believe’ logo.britney-vs.gifThe two logos have a striking similarity, first with the pink letter ‘i’ closely followed by the green colour, weight, and lowercase nature. These of course may all be coincidental elements, but on the other hand they may not. To have so many design aspects mirrored seems highly improbable. Will she do it again? If she does I’m sure everyone involved will want to hit her one more time.
