Visualising visitors with keyword maps

May 18th, 2010 · Ric · No Comments

We get a lot of visitors to our website and blog each month so like to look at the stats to see which pages are popular. We’ve got a bit of a competition running in the office to write most popular blog story (I’m losing by quite a way, although mine are far more interesting!). I also want to optimise our client’s websites as effectively as possible to ensure good search engine ranking. For this reason it’s useful to be able to look at where visitors come from in a number of different and inventive ways. Read more

In a perfect world

May 14th, 2010 · Ash · No Comments

I like the simple executions of this idea ‘a perfect world’. This series of illustrations highlights everyday annoyances by pointing out what it would be like if everything went our way. This on-going project that was started by Catrina Dulay.  I’d imagine as designer, born with the perfectionist gene, you could run quite far with this idea.

There’s something wrong with Number 10

May 13th, 2010 · Paul · No Comments

Number 10 Downing Street Something caught my eye yesterday when looking at a photo of Number 10 Downing Street. It wasn’t the fact that there were two Prime Ministers, David Cameron with his blue tie, Nick Clegg with yellow (perhaps given time they will wear striped ties?) — No, it was something that only the typographic geek in me would notice. The number 1 is too big, or perhaps more likely the 0 is too small, and seeing how poorly crafted it is, looks like it was a rush job!

Tweeting. Swiss Style.

March 11th, 2010 · Ric · No Comments

I’m not a fan of Twitter, maybe because most people use it to waste time posting things no one is interested in. I do quite like Helveti-tweet, a fairly pointless website that shows Tweets about Helvetica. I’m amazed how often people mention the typeface. Maybe Comic Sans needs an obituary site?

There aren’t enough font related comic strips out there. Luckily, I managed to find this one by Andy Rementer (creator of Techno Tuesday).

Typetastic Web Fonts

January 29th, 2010 · Ric · No Comments

I’ve a feeling that 2010 is the year that typefaces are finally liberated onto the Internet. Up until now there have been several factors stopping the widespread use of typefaces other than the standard ‘web safe’ fonts like Arial, Verdana, Comic Sans and Times New Roman being used. This meant a companies print literature didn’t match their website and designers were limited with what they could do, but slowly, it’s beginning to change and I’ve been experimenting.

The Shop Front

THE SHOP
I first heard about the Superhero Supply Store on a university field trip to the biggest apple. One of my tutors, Gabriel Solomons, gave us all a list of things do and this seemed like something not to be missed. The store was, in no exaggeration, probably the greatest and most wonderfully designed shop I have ever seen with both my eyes. It was a child’s dream of a shop, a shop for super heroes.
