I have just seen these amazing film poster redesigns by Olly Moss. They are incredibly simple in their look but completly sum up the film in one basic shaped illustration image. I have included a few above for your viewing pleasure.

Just—My—Type™ is a side project of designer Jakob Nylund / Formconspiracy. All typefaces are free to download and free to use without any restrictions. Most of them are only available in Illustrator AI format and the capital letters A-Z are the only characters that exist if nothing else is stated.

We always love some free typefaces!

Tired of cutting up your own rugs into various shapes and typefaces? Well put down your toe nail scissors now, an answer is here. Graphic designer John Agelii creates hand-cut typographic rugs that provide a literal statement to your home/studio/rug museum. They come in a variety of colours, typefaces and shapes but what really excited me was that you can order custom made rugs from his website. Read more

Staring at columns of facts and figures isn’t much fun and not very visually exciting, but understanding and being able to quickly read data is important. IBM’s Many Eyes project makes dealing with data more interesting. Read more

New Barclaycard Logo

September 29th, 2008 · Paul · 2 Comments

Four years after Interbrand redesigned the Barclaycard logo, The Brand Union get their hands on it. I can’t help but think their inspiration might have come from Sony Ericsson. The new logo will appear in cyan, orange, magenta and green. Green? Where did they get that idea?

I would have hoped that for the £600,000 it cost Barclaycard they would have managed to achieve something original. They are obviously trying to target the xbox generation but my feeling is it’s not quite ‘grown up’ enough. Maybe they are hoping they’ll attract a younger market, perhaps the £1m they are spending on the launch and implementation will also be focused on 18-35 year olds.

I really like the logo and congratulate The Brand Union on managing to get Barclaycard to part with such a sum.

Handwritten Typographers

July 8th, 2008 · Ric · No Comments

I love type and typography but have terrible handwriting, it’s so bad I’m ashamed of it. But after finding an article on the handwriting of typographers I don’t feel so bad, some of them have bad writing too. It’s an interesting read and you can see similarity in some typographers’ creations and their handwriting.

Google Logo Redesign

May 2nd, 2008 · Paul · 7 Comments

Isn’t it about time that something was done about the Google logo? My apologies to Ruth Kedar, but I think it’s a shocking piece of design. Ruth may have won several design awards and worked as a consultant art professor but that doesn’t mean that everything she produces is a work of art.

Google is one of the largest and most powerful companies in the world and yet the logo looks like it was created by a 10 year old. It’s not just the primary colour palette which offends me, however it is slightly improved when reversed out, such as in iGoogle. But for me it will take more than well designed backgrounds (or poorly as the case may be) to make the Google logo worthy of any awards.

Of course it’s recognisable around the world but I doubt very much that Google’s success has anything to do with the design of it’s logo. I know many of us are subjected to looking at this logo everyday, so please Google, consider a re-design, rather than erasing us from your search engine for writing this article!
