Guernsey. Wish you were here?

Poorly designed Visit Guernsey Advert by the Partnership Agency.Guernsey. Wish you were here?

I don’t. Or rather, I don’t believe that this ad (which appeared over the weekend in a colour supplement) IN ANY WAY reflects what Guernsey truly has to offer (and that’s putting it mildly).

Super Models

February 20th, 2009 · Adam · No Comments

wallace-1Forget real models to advertise your business, plasticine is back and its fashionable. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Agness Deyn and now Wallace. When Harvey Nichols were launching their new store in Bristol they got some help from the west country’s famous exports, Wallace and Gromit. The campaign was created by DDB London with photography by Giles Revell.

The pair were great to work with, they can definitely hold a pose.

February 6th, 2009 · Adam · No Comments

stamps-introI having been meaning to write this blog for a while, sorry that it is now out of date. The Royal Mail has released this series of stamps celebrating British design classics. They include the London bus, Harry Becks Underground map, the mini skirt, Spitfire, the Mini, Penguin book covers and Concorde.

If you would like to buy this set or for more information go to what I like to call The Super Regal Stamp Machine but everyone else calls Royal Mail. Read more

Model Citizens

October 22nd, 2008 · Adam · 2 Comments

Land of the Giants, Microworld in Jersey and Big staring Tom Hanks are all famous examples of when art and size mix. These all however fall into insignificance compared to the work of Slinkachu (a self confessed Scorpio). The street artist has been photographing plastic models in humorous and intriguing situations around the city of London. Using architectural and train set models he recreates moments in a typical Londoners day. He then leaves the tiny installations for future passers-by to find. I was thinking about how to explain his work but found this quote from Exit Magazine that worked pretty well. Read more

Vinyl Heads

February 18th, 2008 · Adam · No Comments

tiffany.jpgEver wondered what it would be like to have a popstars face, hand or eyes? If not I’m sure you will do after seeing these vinyl heads. These are just a couple of pictures of the latest fad/craze/in-thing to be sweeping the internet. All you require is a model, camera and a back catalogue of front-on big face vinyl.

Whilst wearing similar clothes to the artist in question take your twelve inch sleeve and move it inline and in proportion with your body. You can then strike a pose that you think the artist was probably doing or take on a highly unlikely or comical position, then just click away.

World Press Photo Award 2008

British photographer Tim Hetherington won the top prize at the 2008 World Press Photo awards, with the image above of an unidentified US soldier resting in a bunker in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan. The valley is infamous as the site of downing of a US helicopter and has seen some of the most intense fighting in the country. Hetherington’s photograph is part of a picture story that was also awarded 2nd Prize in General News Stories.

Greenhouse Exhibition: Eye to Eye

February 6th, 2008 · Ric · No Comments

gh_e2e.jpgA new photographic exhibition entitled ‘Eye to Eye’ opens soon at the greenhouse gallery.

Phil Sayer’s exhibition ‘Eye to Eye’ focuses on well-known artists, architects and designers of our time photographed in their studios or workspaces. This has been a recurring theme for Sayer’s work and many of the works on show have been private commissions by the artists, architects or designers themselves or by those who have commissioned work by them. The portraits include those of Vivienne Westwood, Antony Gormley, David Hockney, Paul Smith, Mary Quant and Norman Foster.
