This year we took the opportunity to give the Victor Hugo Music Festival a refresh. The site has been totally rebuilt in HTML 5 and this gave us the chance to make it wider and easier to use more visually appealing.

In the video for Coldplay’s track Strawberry Swing, frontman Chris Martin becomes a superhero in a world drawn entirely in chalk. In this charming video Chris Martin goes to battle with a giant squirrel to save the girl.
The video has been promoted online but is also due to be shown in cinemas before certain films. I personally like the idea of getting to watch a music video before a film as opposed to a trailer for yet another comedy featuring Will Farrell.

In September of this year the fourth Victor Hugo International Music festival will take place in Guernsey. This years lineup of musicians includes classical acts such as the Southbank Sinfonia and Psophos Quartet, as well as traditional folk music and dancing from Portugal and Latvia.
You can get full details on all the acts performing as well as how book tickets on their website which we’ve recently updated.

The 3G iPhone was unveiled yesterday at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Apple have addressed some of the issues with the original iPhone such as the battery life which is now comparable to other 3G phones on the market with 24 hours of audio and 5 hours of 3G talk time. It also comes with integrated GPS with Google Maps live tracking but best of all it’s less than half the price of the original iPhone starting from only $199 for the 8GB version and climbing to $399 for the new 32GB version.

I have recently seen a very wonderful music video from the band Justice. Directed, illustrated and animated by French designer So Me. The video follows two people walking through halls with animated t-shirts. The second video was a viewing recommendation from fellow Betley blogger Ash. The band is Sh*tdisco with their song Ok. The majority of the video is done using a pop-up book containing pictures of the band playing and singing, it is a great video. It uses a idea which I’m sure every young designer has been tempted to use for a project, but they execute it really well.

Hot chip go further than most with the artwork for their albums. Their latest cover for ‘Made in the Dark’ has a lovely and elusive looking finish with an embossed, cracked effect for the centre circle, printed with bronze ink on top.
The previous album, The Warning, had a number of different variations of its artwork. The range of artwork for this was well connected using the same element of a block with a plank through it. There are apparently no less than 23 pieces centered around this element. I think it’s a great use of a simple element applied well to different concepts, producing a great collection of artwork.
