Stanley Gibbons – stamp dealers and publishers since 1856 and more recently recognised as the home for autographs, collectibles and alternative investments, has recently taken a radical new approach to their advertising after collaborating with Guernsey design agency, Betley Whitehorne.
The agency has produced a series of adverts for Stanley Gibbons’ investment arm, highlighting the high return potential of collectibles such as signed photographs, documents and personal items from celebrities and historical figures such as Winston Churchill and Marilyn Monroe.

The London Olympic committee has revealed that the logo for 2012 was actually an April fool. Unveiled in June 2007 the logo was greeted with mixed reaction but mainly disgust by athletic design purists. Its new-rave/80’s throw back style was a departure from the classic five colour ring pieces that we are normally accustomed to. Apparently even the team at Wolff Olins didn’t know they were part of the biggest joke since pre-buttered bread. Read more

Guernsey. Wish you were here?
I don’t. Or rather, I don’t believe that this ad (which appeared over the weekend in a colour supplement) IN ANY WAY reflects what Guernsey truly has to offer (and that’s putting it mildly).

Forget real models to advertise your business, plasticine is back and its fashionable. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Agness Deyn and now Wallace. When Harvey Nichols were launching their new store in Bristol they got some help from the west country’s famous exports, Wallace and Gromit. The campaign was created by DDB London with photography by Giles Revell.
The pair were great to work with, they can definitely hold a pose.

Take a look at these sale ads from Harvey Nichols. The sheer scale of this sale has the mannequins quivering and cowering from the discount mob. This also looks a lot like a fashionable version of Pompeii.

I like this on many levels. Not just because it’s a clever way of demonstrating the effects of global warming and certainly not because it’s in a location which means that only a few will ever see it. For me it doesn’t really matter, the PR generated from creating something original must make it worth while? After all traffic to their site has gone up 300%.
The ad, created by Ogilvy & Mather, for HSBC’s global warming initiative features a giant aerial photo of New York.
