Floating island football in Thailand

Thailand isn’t that well known for football but this advert from TMB (the Thai Military Bank) sets the record straight I think.

A nice story of overcoming adversity and lateral thinking.

Innovative mobile interface

March 29th, 2011 · Ric · No Comments

The sequel to Samsung’s very successful Galaxy S phone has some very interesting user interface ideas that go beyond the basic touch screen idea. They incorporate natural, familiar gestures into the interface. Instead of pinching to zoom websites you place two fingers on the screen and move the phone closer or further away and it zooms according just like holding a bit of paper. Another clever idea is instead of sweeping and dragging to move widgets across homescreens you simply move the phone left or right to pan through them. It’s gives the impression the screen is a window that you move to change your view point. It very innovate but also very natural.

Guernsey’s Donkey Parade Takes Shape

March 28th, 2011 · Chris · No Comments

The countdown has started to an exciting new fund raising initiative that echoes other similar famous Parades from around the world, and which is now coming to Guernsey. However, rather than Elephants, Pigs or Cows, Guernsey’s Parade will feature the rather more appropriate Donkey as its figure head.

The event is the brainchild of Trevor Wakefield, Principal at Guernsey’s College of Further Education, and will raise valuable funds for GALP (the Guernsey Adult Literary Project). More information will be available soon on guernseydonkeys.com, which is currently being designed and built by Betley Whitehorne (who are also sponsoring one of the donkeys).

An important first step has been made, however, with the creation of an event logo, designed and supplied by students at The College of Further Education. More details to follow.

Firefox 4 makes the web a better place

March 24th, 2011 · Ric · No Comments

Firefox 4 has been out for a couple of days now and already clocked over 14 million downloads. That’s pretty impressive, as are the new features. The launch events highlighted the speed of the Internet and social networks in ways I’d never seen before. I’m not much of a Facebook user but decided to Like the Firefox page and in the time it took me to open the page and press the like button another hundred or so people had done the same. Whilst I know other people are using websites at the same time as me it’s an interesting to see it happening before my eyes. Read more
