In the past, they said in the future, which is now the present, that we’d have all sorts of food innovations such as magic pills that contained entire meals, and vending machines that could create any flavour you wanted. Whilst not quite at that level I like this entry for the Electrolux Design lab 2010 – a bio robot refrigerator that cools food using no electricity.
The food in the fridge is surrounded by a sticky gel which I presume has no taste. I love the look of the green goo, it keeps food fresh and separated so no odours can spread. The fridge is also intelligent enough to cool each item to the correct temperature too. It could have some interesting uses too. There are no shelves, drawers or compartments, so owners are able to push food to different places to group it together for meals. I wouldn’t recommend storing a plate of last nights leftover chilli con carne in it as you’ll spend forever picking bits out!
As the contents are visible it’ll also reduce the likelihood of axe murders keeping their victims chilled in the family cooler.
I’d like to see a similar concept for regular storage instead of using shelves. Maybe totally clear so objects appear to be floating in 3D space. It would make dusting simpler too.
