A big Happy Birthday to the PlayStation 2 that is 10 years old - in computing terms that's several lifetimes. Whilst I never owned one myself, but my brother did and spend many an hour playing on it. It changed gaming and cemented Sony's position in the market - the PlayStation Generation was born. It's sold over 140 million units to date which is amazing, and it's still going strong now. On it's first day alone it made more than $250 million dollars in sales! It wasn't just the hardware that sold well, the game Grand Theft Auto sold over 17 million copies.
It was also many people's first DVD player and helped start the revolution of games consoles being used for something more that just playing games. Sony did the same with the PlayStation 3 by adding a BluRay drive - and I bet no other BluRay player released at the same time (and most of those since) will support 3D movies like the PS3 does!
The PS2 was truly great bit of hardware and will be exhibited in the museums of the future!
