Thunderbird is to email clients what Firefox in to web browsers. Version 3 has just been released and it really rather nice. Thunderbird 3 makes organising your email very simple with a host of features like smart folders, tabs, tags, simple archiving and address book management. The search is also very powerful but simple to use, allowing you to search by keyword, email address etc, and then filter your results by date, sender, attachments and more. The calendar addon – Lightning – isn’t quite ready yet but should be released in a few weeks. I’ve been testing an early release of it and found it integrates nicely with Thunderbird. If you’re after a fast, feature packed but simple to use email program you could do a lot worse the Thunderbird 3, and to make it even better it’s free.
