Gary has just returned from a quick trip to Edinburgh. Unfortunately he felt a bit ill and didn’t get to do much. Maybe next year Gary.

Burnt toast a thing of the past
August 10th, 2009 · Georgina · No Comments

The risk of burnt or underdone toast could be eliminated with a new variation on a toaster. The bread is placed between two heated sheets of glass and cooked in full view, so you can pop the bread up before it burns, although there is a traditional heat dial as well. It’s been created by product developer Inventables, and while it’s only a concept design at the moment, it is set to hit the market in the not too distant future, making burnt toast a thing of the past!
The Shop Front

THE SHOP
I first heard about the Superhero Supply Store on a university field trip to the biggest apple. One of my tutors, Gabriel Solomons, gave us all a list of things do and this seemed like something not to be missed. The store was, in no exaggeration, probably the greatest and most wonderfully designed shop I have ever seen with both my eyes. It was a child’s dream of a shop, a shop for super heroes.

Augmented Reality is Virtually With Us
August 4th, 2009 · Ric · 1 Comment

What is Augmented Reality? It’s a technology where you overlay the real world with computer generated graphics in real time. Think of it a bit like being able to add movie-like live special effects to what you’re seeing, although probably with less explosions than the average film! Until we all wear contact lenses with little screens in them we’ll have to resort to using mobile phones and other devices with cameras and screen in to view the effects though. I’ve a feeling AR is going to get very big in a few years.

Trace of Time Clock
August 3rd, 2009 · Ric · No Comments

We’ve featured quite a few clocks on our blog now but this is one of my favourites. It’s a very simple but effective idea, the face is made of glass which can be written on with whiteboard markers. The solitary hour hand then wipes away any trace of what was written as it sweeps past. Great for ensuring your hit deadlines before they’re lost forever!
