London 2012 April Fool

2012The London Olympic committee has revealed that the logo for 2012 was actually an April fool. Unveiled in June 2007 the logo was greeted with mixed reaction but mainly disgust by athletic design purists. Its new-rave/80's throw back style was a departure from the classic five colour ring pieces that we are normally accustomed to. Apparently even the team at Wolff Olins didn't know they were part of the biggest joke since pre-buttered bread.

Lord Sport General Sebastian Coe is said to be delighted that people believed it for so long. "The public went from disbelief to hatred to acceptance. The trick to a good joke is keeping a straight face and we certainly kept our face straight for a long time. I feel relieved that its finally out in the open. We realised the best way to drum up publicity for the 2012 games wasn't through sporting achievement or great design but by offending people with bright colours. Hopefully now we have got the nations attention we can crack on with the sport side of the Olympics."

Old Seb has also confirmed that the new drab London 2012 logo will be revealed half way through this years Big Brother during a fitness task. "We just feel that if we are down with the kids we can make this the best Olympics ever. We, at the London 2012 organising committee, need to show Britain's children that the Games are the best reality TV programme ever."

Well they definitely got my attention, I for one shall be watching, listening, smelling and looking avidly for the next chapter in the British Olympic story.
