Model Citizens

Land of the Giants, Microworld in Jersey and Big staring Tom Hanks are all famous examples of when art and size mix. These all however fall into insignificance compared to the work of Slinkachu (a self confessed Scorpio). The street artist has been photographing plastic models in humorous and intriguing situations around the city of London. Using architectural and train set models he recreates moments in a typical Londoners day. He then leaves the tiny installations for future passers-by to find. I was thinking about how to explain his work but found this quote from Exit Magazine that worked pretty well.

…the work aims to highlight the overwhelming feeling of isolation and loneliness which affects much of today’s society and to reflect upon the condition of city living, the sense of insignificance and anonymity some feel at being engulfed by a large metropolis. Furthermore, the images provide an opening through which a viewer can pull out a self-created narrative.

Slinkachu has released a book about the series entitled ‘Little People in the City’ with a foreword by Will Self. For more pictures and information visit the Little People Blog.
