From Air to Chair

May 30th, 2008 · Ash · No Comments

Swedish furniture design company Front have developed a technique for producing unique pieces of furniture from sketches drawn in air. The technology they have developed translates freehand sketches drawn in a space into 3D furniture using laser setting technology.

The furniture designs depend on the designers awareness and understanding of 3D space.  As they sketch their movements are invisible to them.  They must have an idea of the end point of their last movement.  The results have a childlike quality and each piece is bespoke with no two identical pieces able to be produced.
