Quirky Interior at Google Zurich

April 7th, 2008 · Ric · 3 Comments

The new Google office in Zurich has a very fun and quirky interior, it’s like nothing you’ll find in Guernsey. (or just about anywhere else) I think most companies wouldn’t even dream about creating such a working environment. Perhaps Google’s success is a sign that they should be thinking about making their offices a more interesting and fun place to be. After all the office is not the natural environment of humans, it’s something we’ve constructed but not really thought about changing, offices have remained fundamentally very similar for a long time.

In Google Zurich there is a games room, a library in the style of an English country house and an aquarium where over-worked Googlers can lie in a bath full of red foam and stare at fish. There are fireman’s poles to allow rapid travel between floors, and the the canteen even has a slide allowing quick entry, and presumably to keep queues for the free food short. Take a look at the video and images below.

One day our office will get a giant ice cream. All we have to do is become one of the biggest companies in the world.

People who work at pixar have bunk bed, games rooms, mini motor bikes etc. Helps with the creative flow and pulls you back to childhood wonder. I think that more offices should put so effort into making it as interesting as possible, relevant to the work you do, or have an outlet for frustration and stress.
used to have lots of dogs at my last job, it rocked!! (Until they ate the network cable, and stole all my pens)
Just going out for drinks after work bores me. I dont want to see my manager coming on to me and expect me view him as a family guy at work…
    LOL.

I think a good exciting enviroment at work is definatly the way forward.

Bunk Beds? Hum Office Politics? Won’t go there…

What about a bar like MadMen- circa early 60’s
